Just Remember ~ A Headdress of Love

Self Portrait ~ The Headdress of Love

Continued from Monday  'Just Remember'

"If I knew what the picture was going to be like I wouldn't make it.
It was almost like it was made already ......
the challenge is more about
trying to make what you can’t think of."

The above quote from photographer Cindy Sherman - Wikipedia
is one I identify with, but in my case it's not so much about challenge
or trying, but more of an uncovering or a drawing up something from within.

Since the early learning days when I was
frightened of the big blank canvas,
or the sketch book filled with clean white pages,
scared of mark making for fear my work be judged adversely,
or meet someone else's idea of what art should look like,
since those days, my creative process has become
intuitive rather than prescriptive,
if it doesn't happen in the moment,
or as a string of moments knitted together with ease,
then I'm not at one with my work.

If I feel a contrivance, a slaving or forcing
my work through angst
then I'm bringing tension into my art
and I don't feel good rather the opposite is what I feel!

The above portrait came from deep within, it surfaced
as a result of the good feelings I was experiencing,
the absolute joy that I will relate soon,
in the meantime I'm sending this to ~

I so identify with your thoughts! My best paintings have always come as a gift -- they almost paint themselves, it's so effortless. The results from "grinding my teeth" sessions are always disappointing. I'm waiting for the next installment on joy.

i am walking right beside you! i too am looking deeper, following fascination, intuition and unfurling.
this is where a deeper beauty resides,
in the out pouring of soul.

The one lesson that I found hardest to learn in art class is it does not have to look like anyone else's. Years of classes and still trying to learn or to capture that ease. Great work.

Don't Blink

What rate ticketh clock? I blinked and a whole year passed or, was I dreaming? Somehow I seemed to have lost a whole year, it appears what I thought happened last year happened the year before! My sister who is twelve years my senior warned me about this ~ "wait until you get to my age then time really does fly"! Of course we'll never be able to confer! Still, living in the moment can feel like forever, because it is, I'm trying to make each beautiful moment count! Sharing with Haiku my Heart Recuerda mi Corazon
