Grey what can I say about Grey?
A Grey Day?
I can be grateful for the grey,
for it contrasts beautifully
with warmer tones,
warmer tones bringing
cheer to my bones,
A heart warming end to a Grey Day!
The dark grey days of winter do have their compensations,
we can laze in-front of a blazing fire
watching the flames, the colours,
reminiscing ...
Dad would always make perfect toast
over an open fire,
he was an 'expert toaster',
me, I always cremated mine
over the flames,
if not dropped into them!
Dad's were always just right,
he had the knack of angling the fork
for an all-over brown loveliness.
The deliciousness was made all the more
by his careful application of
glistening butter.
The trick was patience,
I hadn't learnt that,
in-fact,
waiting my turn for the next piece
seemed like an eternity,
rather like waiting for spring!
Ah, simple pleasures!

simple pleasures and a perfect seed planted from your fathers hands, for patience.
it has been snowing steady here all weekend. there is a perfect hush from the piling on of snow...and with it treasured memories. thank you for sharing yours. you have sweetened my moment.
I love grey wool - it brings back memories of my first school jumper.. and how special i felt in it.. [might do a post on that sometime!]
How about marshmellows toasted?
I never warmed to those, pardon the pun.
Love your flames - how did you do that?
High Iso?
Sounds like a lovely memory, and I would love to be sitting in front of that fire. I used to sit in front of a roaring fireplace with my cousins when we would visit them, eating popcorn and apples. We were small, all wearing our "feet pajamas" and laughing while my uncle toasted marshmallows perfectly in the blaze. Those are always wonderful memories, I agree.
xo,
Noelle
